Our mission.

The purpose of 'ALL the Weyrs of Pern' was to provide a place for the many and widespread Pern RP'ers to come, hang out and plug their sites without fear of getting yelled at. Since finding a Weyr is uselessly hard these days, it was also our intent to make a big honkin' list of all the Weyrs we could scrape together, and hopefully to provide more active members for sites, and of course active sites for members wanting roleplay.

Gianfar Peaks of Pern, and Shaula Weyr, is comprised of six sims in the virtual world of Second Life set up specifically for Pern themed (although a bit off-canon) roleplay. We have a website with active forums that essentially functions as an adjunct to the in-world (meaning in Second Life) roleplay.

The website is: http://www.gianfarpeaks.com and is free to join.

Second Life is a 3d virtual world that is free to join. Go to http://www.secondlife.com and install their free software. When you create an account you will get to make a 3d avatar and be put through a series of easy-to-follow tutorials. Once you have done so, simply click your map button and search the map for Gianfar. Then click "Teleport" and you will be placed in the middle of our welcome center. Gianfar Peaks of Pern is free to participate. In Second Life you can be a human, a dragon, a watchwher, a firelizard, a dolphin, a feline, a runner beast, a wherry, or even a tunnel snake - and we have them all!

We have an entire sim that is ONLY Weyr (Shaula Weyr), we have a harper hall, healer hall, hold, mines, smithcraft, beastcraft, runners, dolphin craft hall, and weaver craft. And YES, Elizabeth, there IS threadfall and we DO have hatchings on the hatching grounds!

Although the sims are available to wander and explore now, our "Official Opening Date" is Saturday, September 6th, 2008 from 8am Pacific Time to 8pm Pacific Time. It will be a full day of Gather Events with harpers singing and promoting Ad Lib stories, live music streamed to the sims, period dances one might expect at a gather, dragons exhibiting the "clearing of the green" with spectacular fire breath, tours of the sims, Pern themed games, dragon races, horse races, sack races, bubbly pies and roasted wherry, archery tournaments, and much much more. So if you are new to 3d we encourage you to get involved now so that the learning curve will be behind you when official rp starts! And if you don't want to join Second Life, then we welcome you to stop in at the website and say hello. The website is only 6 months old, but we're nearing 1000 posts, so it's fair to say we are pretty active on the website, too.

Currently we have about 65 dragons and about 45 riders, so if you've always dreamed of being a rider, or impressing on the hatching grounds, we probably have a dragon who would love to "impress you." We have mentors who are happy to help you with your learning curve, and we hope to see you in the sims!
